Aspirations Day 2025

23/05/2025

What an inspiring and fantastic day celebrating our next generation of workers.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Lots of children, and staff, came dress up as the occupation they wished to be when they grow up. They dressed up in a huge range of occupations including vets, police officers, doctors, teachers, journalists, pilots firefighters, lawyers, bakers, artists, and this is just to name a few. The day itself was jam packed full of visitors inspiring the young people.

The children were greeted at the gate in the morning by Arlo the owl who is the new mascot for Child Friendly Leeds and is working hard to make all travel safe and easy for children and young people in Leeds.

Throughout the day there were various workshops from visitors within our local community of different occupations who came to share their stories and knowledge. This included, a personal trainer, an anesthetist, the police, an engineer working with prosthetic limbs, HSBC, a nurse, road safety team and the Hunslet Club. They all came with interactive activities which the children loved getting involved with, as well as listening to inspiring stories of what led them to where they are now and doing the job they do. Nursery and Reception had a visit from the Police and were able to dress up and explore the Police van they came in. They really enjoyed having their teachers 'arrested' and put in the back of the van! The Police spoke to the children about who they can go to if they are feeling unsafe or in danger. Year 1 children also had the Police show them how to investigate a crime scene which took place in their playground. This included using real CSI equipment and each child had their fingerprints made in to key-rings.

In among all the visitors, the staff were able to talk more with the children about what they would like to be and what or who inspires them. The children enjoyed sharing these with their peers also and finding out more about each other as they were in mixed year groups from Year 2 to Year 6. They were all given a lanyard for them to decorate and write on what they would like to be, which then encouraged them to go ask each other more about it. They were excited to see all our staff dressed as who or what they wanted to be when they were young too.

We are so grateful to all our visitors for inspiring our children, the next generation! The feedback from the children was incredible as they are now more informed about the potential careers ahead of them.
